Adding images to your website

Caign Webs Drupal user guide

We use two main methods for adding images to our websites:

  1. The image assist module, which is installed by default, and identified by the following symbol in your tool bar:
    Image assist symbol
  2. An imagefield system in which you will have a content type specially set up, with fields ready for inserting images. This is the easier method to use, as the images will be automatically displayed in the appropriate place(s) and size(s) on your website.

Image preparation

With either method, any editing needs to be done using your usual image editing software before uploading to your website. (The amount of editing required will depend on your source.) You must:

Make the image size the same or a little larger than you want it to appear when the image is inserted on your website.

Ensure the file size of the image to be stored is appropriate. Each image should be less than about 100KB, with small images considerably smaller than that.

You may also wish to:

Crop sections of your image which you won't need.

Sharpen the image as needed.

Change the filename by which it is stored, as this cannot be changed once it is uploaded.

We strongly recommend that you only use letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens in your filenames.
